For the second year running, our trustee, Matthew Wood and his family organised a night at the
Cricket Club in Barwick in Elmet – Horse Racing! Not real gee-gees, but filmed nags on screen
with the ‘punters’ placing bets on fanciful horses with names such as ‘Constipation’, ‘Lend me a
Tenner’ and ‘I’m Broke’
All a game of chance with the ‘bookmakers’ winnings being donated to Take Heart. The excitement
generated had to be seen to be believed and it turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable, if
deafening, evening. A raffle had been organised with twenty super prizes donated in the main by
local businesses – and talking of organisation, the work put in to provide this evening’s
entertainment was phenomenal and we really appreciate it.
Our team (Colin, Alec, and me with our wives together with Maureen and her partner), lost on
nearly every race, but the winners of the night were most certainly Take Heart. Colin and Alec were
presented with the magnificent sum of £892.00 at the end of the evening. A huge thank you to
Andy and Angela Wood and their family and friends for providing this memorable evening for us.
