Sue ran this 10K for us in memory of her father and wrote:
“I want to do the run in memory of my dear Dad , Barry Elliott whom I loved and miss dearly. ‘Take Heart’ is a
charity run on a completely voluntary basis and raises money for the Yorkshire Heart Centre based at Leeds
General Infirmary to fund projects and provide the best possible comfort for patients and their families. It is a
fantastic organisation and really does make a difference to patients and families: I will forever be indebted to
them for the special care they gave my dad”
After the run, Sue e-mailed us as follows:
The weather was far too hot for running last Sunday. Unfortunately, after reaching the finish line, I was in a bad
way and was wheeled into the medical tent due to lack of hydration.
On the day of the run event, the atmosphere was fantastic apart from the last ‘K’ run which I do not remember.
However I completed at 64mins 1sec, not quite the target I wanted!!
This turned out to be an understatement since Sue, who is profoundly deaf, collapsed before the end and had
to be helped, ‘Brownlee Brothers style’ to the finish line - something she doesn’t remember. When she came
to in the St John’s Ambulance tent, she had many people working on her since she was suffering from heat
exhaustion and dehydration. She cannot praise these volunteers enough.
It took her more than a week to recover but the end result delighted her (and us) as she had raised a total, way
above her target of £250 and I was delighted to receive this from her when she popped in with her mum to the
Friday stall in the entrance to Jubilee Wing. The cheque was for a magnificent £557.00 and there wil be a lump
of Gift Aid to add to this eventually.

Thank you so much Sue - we appreciate it very
much - it’s just a pity that you suffered so much
in the process.
